In Case You Missed It is about the dance that people have to do when exploring a new relationship. Are they not responding to messages because they are going through something that demands their attention or are they just not that into you?

Self Control is a song that deals with willpower and self-sabotage. Since old habits die hard, back slides are inevitable. It begs the question, why do we continue to do things and spend time with people we know are bad for us?
I had the pleasure of working with the talented Lars de Ruyter (Angulars), illustrator and designer from The Netherlands specialized in making geometric artwork inspired by stained-glass windows, nature, architecture and clear line drawing style. Angulars created the music video in collaboration with Bart Remmers (Remmers Media).

I was 18 when I had my first panic attack. I had no idea what was happening and truly thought I was going to die. I went to the emergency room but they didn’t find anything physically wrong with me so I went home.⠀

As it turns out, sometimes my brain likes to play tricks on me and senses danger when there is none. My little monkey brain goes into fight or flight mode, fires adrenaline on all cylinders (for no reason at all) and sends me spiraling into a two-hour long fear and confused-laden panic.⠀

Eventually, I fall asleep and the next morning I wake up feeling exhausted and depleted but much much better.⠀

During the time before I learned how to manage my panic disorder through breathing exercises, meditation (and medication!) the mantra I used to repeat to myself was “you’ll feel better tomorrow”⠀

Anxiety is definitely running high these days so if it’s something you suffer from, know that you aren’t alone. If you don’t I still hope you think the new tune is a bop. Cheers, Matt ?

I had such a wonderful time with The 12 Ensemble. It’s always a pleasure to play my music with a group of talented string players and really helps bring out the emotional peaks in a song. Paired with an iconic studio like RAK in London, it was a dream.

I’ve been working on this album for the last two years and am so proud of the result. I’m incredibly thankful that I’ve been able to work with so many talented people during this process and cannot wait for you to hear it.

About the song; “I think it’s a universal experience in any relationship to know that there’s something going on with your person, it’s probably your fault and they won’t tell you what it is. In this song, Emily Warren, Scott Harris & I tried to capture that frustrating feeling we all know so well in Open Up.”
I first met Amy (Ames Music) in a studio in Silverlake, Los Angeles. We had a writing session scheduled and we needed a topic to write about. So, as songwriters do we started discussing the goings-on in our lives to try and find some inspiration. Amy told us about how she was dating a woman whose parents are so strictly religious, if they found out about the two of them being together, they would disown their own daughter. It also brought up memories of Amy’s own experiences with intolerance and her family/community not accepting her for who she is. We decided to write about that. This is Amy’s Song ❤
